Tire Tank FAQs
-
Are Tire Tanks safe for livestock
to drink out of? Yes, they are just made of rubber. They have
been used for livestock for over 30 years with no ill effects. The federal
government approves of their use through cost-share funding. Most OTR tires
that we use never had any chemical fluid in them. However, it is always a
good idea to rinse out the tires before installing them.
-
How do you seal the hole (bottom
rimhole)? The quick answer is with concrete, bentonite (drilling
mud), or plate steel. For details go to Setting the
Tank.
-
What are other uses of Tire Tanks?
Tire Tanks are used as feeders for livestock, landscaping ponds and water
features, aquaculture (raising fish and shrimp), raising waterfowl, and as
raised planting beds. If you know of other uses let us know, we'd love
to hear about it.
